Start your year the right way with Ibbott & Co
January is the perfect time of year to take stock of your teeth and make sure you are doing everything you can to look after your all important smile. If, however, you are unhappy with your smile then with the modern dentistry treatments now available, it may well be easier than you thought to have your teeth – and confidence – restored. In this article, we look at some of the cosmetic treatments on offer to help you improve your smile.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is currently one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments and when performed or supervised by a qualified dentist is extremely safe. It is important to recognise that only your dentist can give you a treatment that is guaranteed to be safe and to work as expected. Whitening kits available on the high street are unlikely to get the desired results as they contain significantly smaller quantities of the key ingredients, and may not be suitable to every individual. At Ibbott&Co Dental Practice, we offer two types of tried and tested whitening system:
Home Whitening
A home bleaching kit where you apply the whitening gel in a laboratory fitted tray over a period of 2 – 3 weeks. Usually worn overnight but can be worn during the day.We will give you detailed instructions on how to use this system and will take before and after photographs so you can really see your new smile!
Zoom Teeth Whitening
Zoom In-Surgery tooth whitening takes roughly 90 minutes and will substantially speed up the whitening process. It also includes take home bleaching trays to continue the process. The procedure has been clinically tested to be one of the safest ways to whiten your teeth.Zoom teeth whitening is the latest method to whiten your smile. Using a high intensity light system, Zoom teeth whitening can lighten your teeth by 8-10 shades and with less sensitivity than other teeth bleaching methods.
Aesthetic Treatments
Sometimes it is not the colour of our teeth that causes us concern, but other issues such as crooked or uneven teeth, gaps and worn teeth, all of which can have an impact on our confidence. Luckily, there are many cosmetic options available, including aesthetic treatments. Two popular solutions are aesthetic composite bonding and restoration of worn teeth.
Aesthetic Composite bonding
Cosmetic bonding can make your teeth appear straighter, close gaps and correct imperfections in your smile. This treatment allows you to get rid of those imperfections, often without having to undergo lengthy treatment or wear braces.
Restoration of Worn Teeth
Tooth wear occurs when the enamel outer surface of the tooth erodes exposing the inner dentine layer. Tooth wear problems are very common and can be caused by many factors such as tooth grinding (which can be related to sleep and breathing problems), acid from the diet or coming from problems such as reflux, or sometimes due to the position of the teeth in the bite.Because the dentine is much softer, worn teeth can wear much more quickly and stain faster.
Orthodontics / Braces
Orthodontics refers to the process of moving teeth into a better position and is ideal if you have crowded teeth or gaps in between teeth. Contrary to popular misconceptions, there is no real age limit for orthodontics so in most cases as long as your teeth and gums are healthy they can be straightened. More and more adults are now turning to orthodontics to improve their appearance and with it their confidence, as well as their oral hygiene in many cases. At Ibbott&Co Dental Practice we offer a wide range of modern orthodontic treatments to move the teeth – resulting in quicker and more comfortable treatment times. Aesthetic orthodontics is solely concerned with the appearance of your front teeth. This can result in much quicker treatment times but might not be suitable for everyone.Comprehensive orthodontics is all about giving you a smile and a bite that is as close to ‘ideal’ as possible. Although it normally takes a little longer, the cosmetic results may be superior to those of cosmetic orthodontics. It allows us to improve the function of your jaw and bite. In addition this may lead to a more stable long term outcome.
Ceramic Veneers
Ceramic veneers are a treatment that is often recommended where other orthodontic alignment techniques are not suitable. Veneers can be used in many situations, as part of a solution for issues with the size of your teeth, twisted teeth, unsightly gaps, the shape of your teeth, the symmetry of your smile, how much of the tooth shows, discoloured patches and the way your gums appear.
